Kim Jong Il's pancreatic cancer?

Speculation abounds about the health of the ever-reclusive leader of the DPRK. As usual, this leads to who may control the country if this is indeed the case. Naturally, as with anything North Korea, speculation is all we have, no matter who says otherwise including “intelligence sources”. How many times have these so-called sources been wrong? Too many to count from my estimation. So to clear any doubt, that is all I have too; speculation.

According to One Free Korea, Joshua linked to an interesting FOX News article where a “A source close to Kim’s extended family” Kim Jong Il “is in the last months of his life.” I do not have any clue as to who this source connected to Kim’s extended family is, but if it is right, some interesting things could take place in North Korea. However, it will depend heavily on timing, which I agree on OFK’s post.

Despite the speculations running rampant, pictures and video do not lie. Kim does look like crap. I have seen a steady decline in his appearance in a matter of a few months. What is causing that is unknown, hence the guesswork.

With that fact out of the way, and if the report is true Kim has a terminal illness, some questions get raised.

1. It is almost certain Kim knows if he has a serious ailment. The question is, if it is terminal, does he know he may not survive? Does he buy into his own myth that he is some kind of god that will live through it? I am going to guess he does not buy into his own myth. I will also venture a guess he will try everything possible to extend his life. I mean, who wants to die of pancreatic cancer (if that’s what it is)?

2. There is no evidence of a successor. If he does have a terminal illness, and is aware of it, why the delay in naming a successor? It appears some of the top cronies have shifted and changed, but no word has come from Pyongyang regarding any new leader being groomed. This raises even more questions. Does he know he does not have the time to groom another leader because he has little time left? is there a plan B somewhere? Nobody seems to know. I sure as hell do not have an answer.

Again, this is going to depend on the true nature of his illness (whatever it is), and how much time passes. Perhaps Kim does not have any ailment at all, and things will go smoothly in his Juche paradise. Also, it will depend on what Kim plans to do with his regime. Maybe he is not grooming anybody and may have another set of plans altogether.

Or less likely, in my opinion, he may not give a crap anymore.

Between you and me, I predict Kim will die soon, and the news will come unexpectedly. It is my hope for the end of the decades long nightmare that North Koreans face everyday in the land of tyranny. However, the consequences of a sudden death of Kim could mean chaos if a plan B is not in place. Also, if Kim should die, it may not be for the better. What or who will control North Korea if Kim is gone?

Timing is everything, and we shall see when these events take place.
